Former Arlington Heights School Nurse Faces Felony Charges
Former Arlington Heights school nurse, Tory Eitz, 48, is facing felony charges for allegedly embezzling medication prescribed for students. The charges include one felony count of official misconduct, one felony count of forgery, and one misdemeanor count of endangering the life or health of a child.
The investigation into Eitz, who worked at Westgate Elementary School, began after concerns were raised about potential health, welfare, and safety issues at the school. Detectives interviewed witnesses, school staff, and parents, and identified multiple affected students. It was discovered that Eitz had allegedly altered official school documents to conceal her actions.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Eitz was taken into custody on Friday, processed, and later released. She is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, August 19. Gina DeBoni, managing and senior partner at Romanucci & Blandin, which represents nine District 25 families, commented that the charges against Eitz are a step toward accountability. However, she called for further investigation into the behavior of district officials.
DeBoni emphasized the need to hold Arlington Heights District 25 administrators and school officials accountable for their actions. She stated that evidence uncovered during civil investigations suggested that the district was aware of improper medication administration and missing medications, yet failed to take appropriate action.
Calls for Transparency and Responsibility
As the case unfolds, there is a growing demand for transparency and responsibility within the school district. Parents and community members are urging for a thorough review of district policies and procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
It is essential for educational institutions to prioritize the well-being and safety of students, and any negligence or misconduct should be met with swift and appropriate consequences. The community is looking to the legal system to ensure that justice is served and that steps are taken to prevent such incidents from occurring again.
