Metra Delays Caused by Pedestrian Hit by Train

On Wednesday night, a pedestrian was hit by an equipment train, causing multiple delays for Metra trains in Chicago. The incident occurred near 79th Street, impacting several train routes and affecting commuting customers.

Details of the Incident

According to Metra officials, the pedestrian was hit by the equipment train, leading to delays for several Metra electric trains. The victim, a man of unknown age, was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with questions arising about whether the crash was intentional or accidental.

Impact on Train Schedules

Several Metra train routes were affected by the incident, causing delays for passengers. Train No. 337, scheduled to arrive at the 93rd Street/South Chicago Avenue location at 6:14 p.m., faced delays of up to 40-45 minutes due to the collision. Other routes, such as Train No. 237 and Train No. 334, also experienced delays ranging from 25 to 45 minutes.

The disruption in train schedules led to inconvenience for passengers traveling on the MED Blue Island branch, as well as those departing from 93rd street/South Chicago and Millennium Station. Metra officials worked to resume services on the affected routes, advising passengers to stay updated on the latest information provided by WGN News.

Overall, the incident highlighted the vulnerability of pedestrians near train tracks and emphasized the importance of safety measures to prevent such accidents in the future. Metra urged passengers to exercise caution and stay aware of their surroundings while commuting on train platforms and crossings.
