- Telegram’s in-app browser will support decentralized websites built on the TON blockchain.
- Users can access games and services in mini-apps, with Web3 support on mobile and desktop.
Telegram can now access decentralized websites thanks to the launch of a new in-app browser.
Telegram said in a July 31 statement that the launch brings Web3 to the messaging platform’s millions of users.
“Today’s update brings a new in-app browser, support for multiple tabs and makes Web3 available to nearly a billion users, a mini app store, new mini apps, the ability to send stars to friends, and more ,” the Telegram team pointed out.
Telegram reveals in-app support for TON sites
Telegram CEO Pavel Durov also commented on in-app browser support, stating that the TON blockchain will host decentralized websites called “TON Sites.” These sites can be accessed through Telegram’s mobile and desktop applications.
Telegram CEO said that adding in-app browser support for TON Sites means Telegram’s more than 950 million monthly users now have a new way to access Web3.
“The browser allows users to switch between viewing websites and messages, blending communication with news consumption. It comes with all the features you would expect from a browser, such as search, bookmarks, and multiple tabs,” Durov wrote road.
Currently, more than 500 million of Telegram’s nearly 1 billion users use mini-apps every month. The new update is part of the earlier-announced mini-app store, which means a wider user base will have access to games and services again.
