Autopsy Results Confirm Homicide in Milwaukee Hotel Incident
Recently released autopsy results have confirmed that the death of D’Vontaye Mitchell outside a Milwaukee hotel was ruled a homicide. Mitchell, a black man, suffocated while being restrained on June 30, with the autopsy findings pointing to a combination of asphyxiation and the toxic effects of cocaine and methamphetamine as the immediate cause of death.
Questions Raised Over Use of Force
The autopsy report revealed that Mitchell had significant medical conditions, including hypertension and cardiovascular disease, in addition to being under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. Moreover, the investigative report indicated that Mitchell was restrained by four people following a fight in the hotel lobby. This raises questions about the excessive use of force by security guards and hotel staff in handling the situation.
Calls for Justice and Accountability
The family of D’Vontaye Mitchell, along with civil rights attorney Ben Crump, have been calling for immediate charges against those involved in Mitchell’s death. They argue that the use of excessive force, especially in the context of Mitchell’s mental health crisis, led to his untimely demise. Despite the termination of several employees by Aimbridge Hospitality, the company managing the hotel, the family insists on seeking justice and accountability for Mitchell’s death.
