BMW Recalls Over 700,000 Vehicles in North America Due to Fire Risk
BMW has announced a massive recall of 720,796 vehicles in North America due to a potential fire hazard caused by faulty electric water pumps. The issue stems from incorrectly installed water pumps, which could short-circuit and lead to a fire. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has highlighted the problem, noting that improperly sealed electrical connectors on the water pump may be exposed to water and short circuit. Specifically, blow-by fluid from the positive crankcase ventilation system may collect on the intake hose and eventually drip onto the plug connector, potentially causing a power shortage.

The recall number assigned to this issue is “24V-608”. Owners can contact the NHTSA safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for more information.
According to BMW, as of this month, the company has received about 18 customer complaints related to the faulty water pumps. However, no accidents or injuries have been reported in connection with the recall.
Recalls in Recent Months
This marks BMW’s third recall since July. In a previous recall on July 24, over 290,000 vehicles in North America were affected due to faulty bolts that could cause the inner cargo rails to detach in a collision. On July 10, more than 394,000 vehicles were recalled in North America due to airbag inflators manufactured by Takata that could explode during a crash, posing a danger to occupants.
BMW is taking proactive measures to address safety concerns and ensure the well-being of its customers. Vehicle owners are encouraged to act promptly upon receiving recall notifications to have the necessary repairs conducted.
