Celebrating Steve “Mongo” McMichael’s Hall of Fame Induction
In a prelude to his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Chicago Bears legend Steve “Mongo” McMichael was honored with celebrations in Chicago. Meanwhile, the Chicago Bears played the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, on Thursday.
Crowds gathered at Chicago bars to watch the game and join in the Hall of Fame celebrations. One such bar, Butcher’s Tap in Lakeview, transformed into “Team Mongo Headquarters” for the evening, where fans came together to celebrate this long-awaited moment.
“It’s a really, really cool night for us all to come together and try to make this happen,” said fan Paul Yurio. “I can’t wait to see the bust and jacket on Saturday, it’s unbelievable.”
Recognition of McMichael’s Achievements
The ’85 Bears, considered one of the best teams in NFL history, already have several Hall of Famers. McMichael’s teammates have always believed he belonged among them, and finally, he will be inducted this year.
Despite facing the challenges of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, McMichael’s loved ones credit the Hall of Fame induction with giving him the motivation to continue fighting. His dedication and hard work both on and off the field have been an inspiration to many.
Tributes and Support
From a letter-writing campaign to highlighting McMichael’s statistics, various efforts helped secure his spot in the Hall of Fame. Alongside McMichael, former Bears Devin Hester and Julius Peppers will also be inducted.
As McMichael receives his gold jacket surrounded by teammates, the celebration is not just about his football achievements but also about supporting him through his battle with ALS. Funds raised for ALS research in his honor demonstrate the love and respect he has garnered from fans and teammates alike.
