Investigation launched into police shooting in Pilsen
The Chicago Civilian Office of Police Accountability is currently investigating an officer suspected of shooting a man in Pilsen on Sunday. The incident took place near Loomis Street in the 1800 block of South Blue Island Avenue. According to Chicago police, officers responded to multiple gunshots and encountered an armed suspect around 1:16 a.m. Two police officers shot and killed the man, who was armed with a gun. The suspect later died at a hospital, and a gun was recovered at the scene. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation by COPA, and the officer involved will assume administrative duties for a minimum of 30 days.
Additional shootings on the same day
In addition to the police shooting in Pilsen, a woman and another man were fatally shot on the same day. The suspect reportedly shot the victims inside a car before officers arrived at the scene. Both individuals were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Despite the tragic events, both officers involved in the incidents were also evaluated at area hospitals for observation. One officer sustained minor injuries during the altercation. These events mark COPA’s second investigation over the weekend, highlighting the urgency of addressing violence in the community.
