Preparations for the Democratic National Convention in Chicago
As Chicago gears up to host the Democratic National Convention, street closures and safety measures are already in place. Crews have begun setting up fencing near the United Center in preparation for the event.
Street Closures and Safety Measures
The following streets have been closed off:
- Washington Avenue: between Damen and Wood
- Walcott Avenue: between Washington and Warren
- Paulina Street: between Monroe and Adams
Parking is prohibited in these areas starting Monday morning as part of the security perimeter. The perimeter is essential for maintaining safety and security during the convention.
Security Zones at the Convention
There are two designated zones within the security perimeter:
Red zones are restricted to qualified personnel only, while yellow zones are open to the public but subject to safety inspections. This system helps ensure a secure environment for all attendees.
Full Closure Areas
Areas around the United Center and McCormick Place will be fully closed off starting Friday. This closure is necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the convention and the safety of all participants.
