Empowering Youth Through Sports
Participants like Sarah Carretto have found a sense of belonging and purpose through Hoops in the Hood. The program has not only taught them valuable skills on the basketball court, but also instilled important lessons about teamwork, selflessness, and staying away from negative influences. Carretto’s teammates, hailing from different corners of the city, are united by their shared love for the game.
Lisa Cooper, a staff member at Hoops, highlighted the program’s role in encouraging Chicagoans to step out of their comfort zones and engage with other communities.
