North Suburban Man Faces Multiple Felony Charges
Authorities in Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, recently arrested a north suburban man after discovering a significant amount of drugs and firearms at his residence. The incident unfolded when officers found several marijuana plants being cultivated in the backyard of a home on Fulton Avenue.
Discovery of Illegal Activities
Following the initial discovery, authorities obtained a search warrant for the property and uncovered a cache of illegal substances and weapons. This included 23 marijuana plants, over 610 grams of marijuana, 22 grams of psilocybin, 223 Xanax pills, and an arsenal of firearms. Among the weapons seized were 16 high-performance rifles and shotguns, two handguns, and three suppressors. Additionally, police found approximately 8,500 rounds of ammunition on the premises.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
As a result of the search, the resident, identified as Garry Turpin, was arrested and faced multiple felony charges. The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges such as possession with intent to deliver marijuana, illegal possession of firearms, and firearm-related offenses. During his first court appearance, Turpin was denied pretrial release.
It is important to note that five of the rifles seized did not have serial numbers, further complicating the legal implications for Turpin. Despite the seriousness of the charges, authorities did not provide a booking photo of the suspect.
