Series of Burglaries on Chicago’s West Side
Authorities in Chicago are currently seeking a group of individuals responsible for a string of burglaries that have taken place on the city’s West Side. The Chicago Police Department has reported three break-ins at businesses located in Austin and Garfield Park between June 27 and July 17.
During each burglary, a group of up to five individuals, with two serving as lookouts, reportedly broke into the businesses through the front window or door. Once inside, they proceeded to steal money from cash registers or ATMs. In some instances, the perpetrators even went as far as stealing entire ATM machines.
Incident Details and Locations
Chicago police have provided a list of dates and locations where the burglaries occurred:
- 5:17 a.m. June 27, 5200 block of West Chicago Avenue
- Between 7:30 p.m. June 28 and 7:55 a.m. June 29, the 3900 block of West Monroe Street
- 1:16 a.m. July 17, 4800 block of West Fulton Street
During the incidents, the perpetrators were seen wearing a hoodie, mask, and gloves.
Surveillance Footage and Safety Recommendations
In an effort to gather more information, Chicago police have shared surveillance footage capturing one of the break-ins. Businesses in the area are advised to keep their properties well-lit, report any suspicious activity, secure doors and windows, and promptly repair any damaged entry points.
If a burglary does occur, authorities recommend that victims refrain from touching anything and immediately contact the police. If there is surveillance video available, businesses should make a copy to provide to law enforcement.
