Severe Storms Hit Chicago Area
Severe storms are forecasted to bring heavy rain and gusty winds to parts of the Chicago area on Monday night. ABC7 Chicago Meteorologist Mark McGinnis has indicated that inland counties from northwest Indiana to northwest Illinois could experience heavy rain, locally damaging winds, and locally large hail until around midnight on Tuesday. The presence of humidity in these areas increases the likelihood of storm activity, while winds from Lake Michigan will bring cooler temperatures to eastern regions such as the city of Chicago.
Current Storm Updates
ABC7 Chicago Meteorologist Cheryl Scott reported that a broken line of storms began forming around 4:30 p.m., extending from northwest Indiana into parts of Cook County. As of 6 p.m., the storms were below severe limits but were still producing heavy rain and gusty winds. There is a possibility of hail in some areas. By 6:30 p.m., Jasper and Newton counties in northwest Indiana were already experiencing heavy rainfall, primarily west of Interstate 65 and along Highway 41. Additionally, western Will and Grundy counties also saw heavy rainfall, with isolated instances of flooding reported in locations like Worth.
Future Forecast and Precautions
Looking ahead, ABC7 meteorologists are closely monitoring a severe storm moving east from Ogle County toward DeKalb County. Although the storm is expected to weaken as it approaches the city, there remains a possibility of isolated storms overnight. Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
Remember to stay informed, stay indoors during severe weather, and avoid flooded areas. By staying prepared and vigilant, we can minimize the risks associated with severe storms and protect our communities.
